    Opti-Coat VS Clear Coat Failure

This test was conducted over a 2 year period on a vehicle with failing (or failed!) clear coat.

Some close ups of the paint condition before application (note this is not a single stage acrylic paint system that has simply oxidised)

Area is taped up ready for compounding

50/50 shot of the area after compounding and the original damaged surface

    Opti-Coat applied

Now, obviously not every car with clear failure can be saved. It's not uncommon to see the clear peeling off in sheets which is well beyond saving. But in this case, we can display how Opti-Coat will protect even the worst factory paintwork after 2 years.

Here are some 2 year update pictures

And last but not least, full sun shot. Look at that metallic flake!

If the clear is failing then it's beginning to separate from the color or base coat. Applying Opti-Coat to the clear may seem logical but the clear will continue to separate regardless. I'm not implying you shouldn't give it a try but Opti-Coat will take on the characteristics of the surface it's applied to.
