Maybe you could convince your dealer to get a "stock" car in that just happened to be the correct colour and has the right set of options ? That would be a win/win situation for you both.

Unfortunately if u want to be first to have one, u gotta take what is available at the time, or wait up to 6 months to get a special order.

I didnt get all the options i wanted on the GTI but i get to drive it every day and that to me is worth more than missing out on a few bells and whistles, AND it cost me less too.

A lot of the stuff i missed out on i can retro fit anyway.

Sadly, I'm told that is not possible from the launch shipment. You'd think CW, satnav and rear view camera, park assist, ACC and bi-xenons would be easy. I wanted adaptive cruise control, too, but am told by VWA that
With this in mind, I have done further investigations into your
concerns. Adapative Cruise Control is not currently a feature of the
Volkswagen Golf (all models) or future Golf GTD due to the technology
having not been adapted to suit this model in our range.
This despite it being sold on Golfs in the UK. To be continued....

and just a question (not having a go): why on earth would you need park assist AND rear view camera?

Because Park Assist won't tell you that there is a child sitting behind your car etc. So I figure it goes hand in hand

Rear visibility of the Golf is not good. So despite it being a 'small car' (even though it's medium, and larger than old commodores!) and relatively easy for the experienced driver to park, it still doesn't mean that the experienced driver won't hit a child - because you just can't see it without a RVC.

Adding onto what coreying said. The Reversing Camera is dirt cheap ($500) to option on. With the ammount you will prob save by haggeling with the dealer, your technically be getting it for nothing.

And as coreying said, Park Assist will not tell you if a small child, dog, cat etc is behind the car. For $500, it's a no brainer.

Park Assist is also 3 things in 1

    Front and Rear parking sensors
    Automatic parallel parking
Automatic passenger side dipping mirrror when in reverse. (have you ever seen peoples cars with scratched up rims/ hubcaps?, by having this feature it will no longer happen).

    Hi all,

Just want to get peoples thoughts on the GTD i'm thinking of putting a deposit down on one, so i can preorder one. Does anyone know if dealers will be able to preorder or will they just be given stock initial and orders wont be prosessed until after release?

Also i understand that the GTD is very similar to the GT TDI that was release as part of the Mk5 series does anyone here own one and is willing to give me a run down on what it is like to drive. I've always been keen on the GTI but my wife being a greenie wants me to get a diesel.
