    premium diesel

    I have just recently noticed that some petrol stations in melbourne have just started supplying premium diesel. i am just wondering if anyone has used it yet and is it safe to use in the TIG , and if so does it improve performance at all......

    I believe we have it in Brisbane.

    Have heard it does work fine in euro cars and gives a slight improvement to fuel economy.

    Just make sure that it's not blended with something like 20% biodiesel, since VW says No Biodiesel in their TDI's. You don't want to get any problems with the DPF.

    There is also thread about BP Ultimate Diesel in the Fuels and Lubricants section.

    Having been going around BP around my suburbs that supplies BP ultimate diesel. but no one station seem to have the ultimate diesel in their pump. Does anyone know any other fuel supply that close to or equal to ultimate diesel in brisbane area??

    The economy of TDI runs at 8.6L/100km after the first ever tank. But it was topped up by the dealer so wasnt sure of the brand of diesel used and was driven a bit heavy-footed on the first tank too.

    Take a loom at my post in the Fuel & Lubricants section - Best Diesel... thread:
    http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...1&postcount=35

    Summary:
    * Standard Diesel - 1193km's @ 7.97l/100km
    * Premium Diesel - 2520km's @ 7.35l/100km

    So it seems on the premium diesel you can get about 1.1km extra per litre of fuel (0.63l/100km) than standard diesel with the Cetane booster (Moreys Diesel Engine Smoke Killer) when doing relatively open road driving. I would assume the difference is even bigger when you don't put the Cetane booster in standard diesel, but that's an experiment for another time. Comparing consumptions for city driving is another experiment I would like to do if I have the time and/or inclination.
    Caltex Vortex Diesel is becoming more common in Sydney. You can use the search function on the Caltex website to find stations with Vortex Diesel near you.

    What is the price difference between premium and standard diesel and is this just another way the fuel companies and the government are trying to gouge a few more cents per litre out of the poor bloody motorist.

    Ultimate diesel has been on the market in qld for 12-18 months.

    It's currently in short supply (read: not available) due to additive supply issues. BP servos in qld have notices up (in the shop usually, not at the pump).
