    Alarm/security

    Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone can reccommend a good alarm place.
Does anyone have an alarm installed in their Tig ?
Was thinking of getting a proximety sensor, that "chirps" when someone or an object is a set distance from your car.
Any comments or thoughts ? Is it worth it ?

    Thanks

I have only heard good things about Viper alarms.

However i don't know if it is compatible with the VW key and may require another remote to allow vehicle initiation.

    Also look here:

The last reply has a commenta bout an alarm that integrates with the VW key.

The integrated VW alarm can be retro-fitted by a dealer if need be. I ordered mine with the car so its factory fitted, but looking at the VW USA accessories page, you can buy it and retro-fit.

I have my Tiguan insured for fire and theft.
Besides that I keep things out of sight.
So who's going to steal a Tiguan? Low volume family car. Not much fun for a joyrider, too hard to sell for a professional. so, its would be smash and grab.
I have a friend who is an RACV guy. He is expert at disabling alarm systems, because they always screw up. Eventually. Just pray the alarm doesn't decide to immobilise you when driving down the freeway.
The same RACV guy uses a club lock, but doesn't lock it. He carries bolt cutters for removing those, too.
If you want the chirp noise on lock, you can put in the OEM chirper near the firewall, and activate using Cantool.

LOL, I was going to say that my alarm is my insurance company's phone number!

But I'd never go fire and theft again. Did that once and got my car wiped out by an unlicenced Swedish guy driving a Ford Cobra that T-boned me through a red light. My car was totalled, he had no insurance. I was 20 at the time and lost my car (my whole world, apart from my girlfirend at the time) and got nothing for it. Lesson learnt.

I don't know anything about aftermarket units but I can tell you that the factory fitted alarm that came in mine standard is excellent and works seamlessly with the Tig. If it is available as a retro-fit that's what I'd be going for, saves any issues with warranties, compatibility etc etc. It doesn't have a proximity warning device though but it does have an internal motion detector and tilt sensors (these can be deactivated as required).

    Cheers
