It has nothing to do with the type of headlight and works with the bi-xenons and halogens.

Doesn't it make you wonder why the VW dealer doesn't enable this feature when you opt for the factory fitted fog lamps?

It'd all be just value adding...... & make you want to come back for more.

Being a newbie I have a question for you. Do you just need to buy a VCDS cable to access this or do you need to also but software for your PC to access the controllers?

This would be a handy feature to turn on but gearing up just to make this mod is expensive. Do you know what else is possible when using VCDS?

Because it's not supported by Volkswagen. VW and it's other companies like Audi and Skoda all use the same controllers on cars from a $30K Golf to a $200K Audi. They get benefits from the volume manufactured, the modular systems and savings that stem from this. Unlike companies like Ford, GMH, Toyota etc who create systems for each car and have different head units all of which costs $$$ and you end up with having to support tens of thousands of modules (this is changing as they are starting to adopt the VW method but too little too late IMO).

The dealers don't know how to turn these features on either, this was only recently discovered on the Mark V and it's been out 5 years.

There are people around who have them and either lend them or do the work for you.

A few of the Vagcom/VCDS options for the MArk V are listed here - VCDS | my-gti.com

    Thanks Maverick.

I'll have to keep my ear to the ground for someone in my area that can do the mod for me.

Would cornering lights be considered legal in NSW as it activates the fogs?

AFAIK Yes. Many cars use their fog lights as cornering lights including the Mark VI Golf and they meet ADR's although the feature is turned off in Australia on the Golf but many features like this are and it isn't for legal reasons.

It's unlikely you would be booked as you're not using the fog lights but it's working as an auxiliary light at low speeds for cornering. As usual you should seek confirmation if it concerns you as I haven't really looked into this specific area in any depth blah blah blah.

Maybe you should link to a standard disclaimer!

Thanks Mav for the sweet update.

I must admit whilst driving at night it doesn't do a whole lot, unless you aimed them out and higher but it is noticeable.

Here's a video, with credit to my wife
