    Hi Ian & forum members
I'm very interested how you ran the AV and power cable from the boot to the number plate light. Can anyone provide more details and maybe any photos to help, or maybe a URL with the details. I'm not looking forward to removing any boot trim, without some expectations on where the clips are. I have a Mk5 08 TDI.

    Thanks in advance.

Firstly you have to start from the number plate light ,its the hardest part wiring the light is easy but getting the AV and and 12 volt plugs down to under the bumper is a little bit harder,
After you have removed the R/H plate light shine a torch in the opening and look under the car on your back and you can see a faint light shinning though a oblong hole,
make up a flexible wire with a U on the end and feed it up through the hole at the same time put your finger in the light opening with any luck you should be able to feel the end of the wire to the right, but you will have to guide it to wards the opening while bending it to wards you.
Once you have the wire through its only a matter of taping the AV and power plugs onto the wire ,but put one behind the other as they wont fit through together and feeding then down to the lower oblong hole,at this point you will have to maneuver them so they fit through the hole,
at this point check that your number plate light is working after you have soldered the 2 mini spade terminals and plugged them into the light socket,if thats OK click the light in at the same time take up any slack in the AV and power cables under the car,you can now remove the large grommet under the R/H rear guard and poke the cables in cut a slight nick in the side of the grommet so you can replace it and hold the cables there.

You must then remove the boot trim, firstly remover the rear trim its only held by about 10 clips and come of pretty easy , then remove the 2 side trim push in plastic plugs and the trim can be opened , you will then see the AV and Power plugs you pushed through the grommet, its only a matter of connecting the power to the camera and running the AV video cable through to the front under the door sills.
I hope this helps ian ?

If you only wanted to get the camera to turn on when your reversing you can use your reverse light as the source of power. Dont forget u can do the mk6 rvc retrofit except you will need to get either an RCD510 that had RVC standard (not all RCD510 have the rvc connection) or an RNS510.

Cost is significantly more than $100 tho!

You just can't run the camera off the reverse ,if you do reverse cuts out because of the drop in power, you can only use it as a switch through a relay, and because the reverse light is in the hatch section ,just to find the reverse would take hours then to feed it to the camera is an other story,
Lucky for me i have the tow bar fitted and have a reverse wire next to the spot where the plugs come through the grommet.

It wont take hours to find the reverse light, if u can change ur tailight bulbs u can find the harnesses that feed the tailights. As for power drop, itd be minimal but yes a relay would make sense.

I have reverse power in the trailer connection, its in the harness leading from the front of the car before it goes into the VAG connection, just checking with a tester the reverse sensors stopped when the light came on on the tester so it doesn't take much to disconnect the power from reverse.

Sorry for digging up an old thread, any chance you could explain how to connect up via a relay?

    Thanks

    Tim
