You should say the first oil.

    My bro is a mechanic.
His general rule of thumb is what ever the carmakers recommended service interval is...
    Get your oil changed midway.

My CL9 (2005 Accord Euro) had a first oil change at 1,000km, and standard intervals were 10,000km or 6 months, whichever came first. I barely managed 4,000km in 6 months half the time, so my oil was changed frequently (I used Motul 8100 X-cess at $75 a pop too). I was happy with that - it gave me peace of mind, irrespective of the degree of overkill involved.

I'm a little concerned about the Golf's scheduled service intervals, but given my generally-low mileage, I'll be sticking to time intervals to the letter. Which will mean a first service at ~8,000km, and every year (~7,500km) thereafter. And I'll probably bring my own high-end oil too after 15,000.

If yours is TDI, then there is only one oil you cam use and that is VW507 approved oil.

Not sure if you're replying to my post?

If so, no, I have a GTI - EA888 TSI petrol, as per my sig.

Yep, I didn't the signature on the phone screen (doesn't display it).
In TSI, you don't have DPF, but still I would use the latest oil for the latest engines with current emission systems. I'm sure that you know what you're doing.

Yep, thanks for the heads-up mate. I'll definitely be going with a high-end, VW approved and 100% in-spec oil - no doubt one from Maverick's Volkswagen Oil Standard 504.00 / 507.00 Approved Oils list. I see there's a Motul 8100 507 in there.

But I'll only be bringing my own oil once the run-in is complete - I expect my dealer will use a mineral-based oil at the 7,500km service (but who knows for sure...). Have you noticed anything (good or bad) about Solitaire's choice of oils?

    Hej Adam
My selling dealer tried to get me in for the 7500k "extra" service; even stamped the requirement in the book.
I phoned the nearest dealer to my home to book it and the Service Manager there talked me out of it and told me to bring it in at 15,000 ks.
Who knows what VW put in the engines out of the factory and maybe they MEAN it when they say change it at 15,000ks? (mine's a 1.6 TDI)

Hey guys, Skoda Octavia RS MY10 owner, 2.0L TSI, just had the first oil change yesterday at 6 months (5,000kms), took my own oil (Penrite Enviro+ 5W-30 (504.00 approved) from Repco) and filter (from dealer) to my local mechanic, in and out in 30mins (including tyre rotation), I belong to the school of thought that 6 monthly oil changes are a cheap form of engine insurance for the long-term owner. I think if you're looking to trade your car every few years, then perhaps not worth it as the engine will be someone else's problem 7 or 8 years from now, but I plan on keeping mine for probably about a decade, so I'll look after it with bi-annual oil changes.

Did you have to pay for it, and was it required in the book?
